Thanks to the implementation of scientific and research work in cooperation with Hydropolis Ltd. and the Innovation Center of the University of Agriculture in Krakow Ltd., entitled “Carrying out a test lettuce cultivation in a hydroponic cultivation prototype”, economic and environmentally friendly cultivation in a container is now possible.

As part of the cooperation, the first in Poland, modular hydroponic cultivation with a system for controlling growing conditions – a cultivation container was built.

The authors of the work are a team of researchers from three faculties: the Faculty of Agriculture and Economics, the Faculty of Biotechnology and Horticulture and the Faculty of Production and Power Engineering: dr hab. Eng. Tomasz Zaleski, prof. UR, dr inż. Anna Kołton, prof. UR, dr hab. Eng. Jarosław Knaga.

Housed in a 12 meter sea container, the cultivation of low leaf vegetables and herbs can be grown almost anywhere on Earth, all year round while using less water compared to a traditional greenhouse or ground growing system. LED lamps – the only source of light, with properly selected radiation, they determine the size and quality of crops and the growth rate of the plant.

Further work is planned to develop and improve the modular cultivation system, we keep our fingers crossed!
