RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WORK AS PART OF THE INNOVATION INCUBATOR 2.0 – MEASURING DEVICE (DATA FROM TLS AND UAV)

Aug 31, 2020 | INCUBATOR OF INNOVATION 2.0, News

The project “Incubator of Innovation 2.0” contributed to the financing of 9 selected R&D works. Today we present the pre-implementation work entitled “Measuring device for the integration of data from TLS and UAV measurements”, headed by dr hab. Eng. Bartosz Mitka.

Laser scanning is a non-contact metrological method of measuring points on the earth’s surface of objects of natural origin, as well as those produced by human activity. This method is used in geodetic and engineering measurements, construction inventories, measurements of the volume of earth masses and the like. This method commonly uses reference spheres to uniquely identify common points in space for different scanning stations.

The reference measurement ball, which is the result of the project implementation, combines both types of markers by graphically applying a photopoint marker to the surface of the sphere and placing a measuring point on its surface for traditional geodetic and GPS techniques.

The benefits of using the technology are:

  • easy geodetic measurement of the reference ball
  • transmitting coordinates in the adopted frame of reference based on common points, simultaneously for TLS measurements (terrestrial laser scanning) and data from UAVs (drones)
  • seamless, high-accuracy spatial data integration
  • a measuring set of 10 markers fits in one transport case, which significantly reduces the amount of measuring equipment taken into the field

The aim of the project “Incubator of Innovation 2.0” is to support the process of managing the results of scientific research and development works, in particular with regard to their commercialization. The implementation of the program should contribute to the promotion of scientific achievements, increasing their impact on the development of innovation and strengthening cooperation between the scientific community and the economic environment.

The project called “Incubator of Innovation 2.0” is carried out as part of an out-of-competition project “Support for the management of scientific research and commercialization of R&D results in research units and enterprises” under the Intelligent Development Operational Program 2014-2020 (Measure 4.4). The total value of the Project is PLN 1,210,000.
