RABBIT AT THE DENTIST, THE HOME VULCAN, THE SPEECH OF ANIMALS … THE UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE IN THE FOURTEENTH EDITION OF THE MALOPOLSKA SCIENTIST’S NIGHT

This coming Friday, November 27 this year, for the 14th time, the Lesser Poland Scientists’ Night will be held. This year, due to the current epidemic situation, all shows, lectures, presentations organized by the University of Agriculture in Krakow will be held remotely from 10.00 to 16.00 and from 18.00 to 24.00 and will be available at: https://nocnaukowcow.urk.edu.pl

Due to the organization of the event in an online form, the Małopolska Night of Scientists this year is a nationwide event. Not only the inhabitants of Małopolska, but also science enthusiasts from every corner of Poland will be able to take part in it.

All units of the University were involved in the organization of the event at the University of Agriculture in Krakow, i.e. the Faculty of Agriculture and Economics, the Faculty of Forestry, the Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology, the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy, the Faculty of Biotechnology and Horticulture, the Faculty of Production and Energy Engineering, and the Faculty of Food Technology, University Center for Veterinary Medicine.

In total, over 100 employees and students of the University of Agriculture took part in the preparation of about 70 different activities – shows and experiments, workshops, lectures and live coverage!

During this year’s Scientists’ Night, we will look for answers, among others to the questions: What is breathing in Krakow? Is hard or soft water better? How to negotiate effectively? What is the bioeconomy in sustainable development? How do animals communicate? When do the birds sing? How to model in 3D? How to use a laser scanner? Can mushrooms be treated as medicine? Scientists will also debunk myths that anything with “E” is harmful. Women learn the secrets of creating cosmetic lipsticks. Those who would like to know how to get a silver mirror in a test tube will also satisfy their curiosity. The properties of dyes obtained from parsley leaves or red cabbage will be presented. There will also be spectacular shows – such as a “home volcano” based on sodium bicarbonate and acetic acid. Beer lovers – they will learn the secrets of creating and organoleptic evaluation of beer quality. All people who want to lose weight will learn what to eat on a reduction diet so as not to feel hungry, and how to build muscle mass in the body through a proper diet. There will be presentations of obtaining briquettes and pellets from energy crops, as well as tips on how to evaluate the quality of biofuels. New challenges facing renewable energy sources will also be discussed. Animal lovers will learn if it is worth sterilizing or neutering animals, what not to give the dog to eat, or how does exercise affect their nervous system? They will also see what animal tissues look like under the microscope and what are the characteristics of rabbit teeth? They will also learn interesting breeds of dogs and cats and their characteristic features.
